ATTORNEY STUART MAUNEY APPOINTED TO ABA COMMISSION ON LAWYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Greenville, SC– Gallivan, White & Boyd, P.A. is pleased to announce that firm shareholder Stuart Mauney has been appointed to a one year term as a member of the ABACommission on Lawyer Assistance Programs Advisory Committee. The ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs has the mandate to educate the legal profession concerning alcoholism, chemical dependencies, stress, depression and other mental health issues. They also assist and support all bar associations and lawyer assistance programs in developing and maintaining methods of providing effective solutions for recovery.
Stuart’s election continues his long standing commitment as a mental health advocate. In 2008, Mauney was appointed to chair the SC Bar HELP Task Force whose mission was to raise awareness and promote prevention of these illnesses in the legal profession. Stuart works as a volunteer with Lawyers Helping Lawyers (LHL), which provides counseling referrals and resources for attorneys struggling with depression or substance abuse. He currently serves on the board of Gateway, a local clubhouse which provides services to the chronically mentally ill in the Greenville community. He previously served on the board for Mental Health America of Greenville County.
Stuart’s legal practice is focused on the defense of business and commercial clients in the professional negligence, personal injury, and trucking law practice areas. He also dedicates a portion of his practice to representing nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Additionally, Stuart serves the South Carolina legal system as a certified mediator.
